I live only 45 miles away from Crater Lake (I'm at the 4200 foot elevation). This visit happen to be before the usual October snows. Crater Lake gets about 500 to 600 inches of snow a winter. The rim drive was still open and I arrived at the east side pull off that gives the best view of the Phantom Ship right at the time the  late October evening sun spot lighted it at just the right place.
